Margarete exchanged wedding vows with Alfred Zimmerman on December 6, 1952 in Vancvouer, B.C. The couple, having moved from Austria to Canada, eventually settled in Portland.
Margarete enjoyed knitting, crocheting and collecting porcelain dolls. She maintained her Austrian tradition of making cookies every Christmas from her family recipes.
Margarete was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, of 48 years. Margarete passed away June 2, 2013 in Portland. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 7, 2013, in Saint Peter's Parish. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. She is survived by her children, John Zimmerman, Anita Acuna and Diana Prelle; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.
