July 18 1941 - September 27 2025
Peggy, beloved wife and mother, was called home to be with the Lord after battling cancer for several years. Peggy was deeply loved by her family, and her absence leaves a hole in our lives, even as we celebrate her life and her legacy of love, laughter, and kindness.
Peggy was born to Ethel McWilliams in Mt. Vernon, New York, and was later adopted by her stepfather, Chief Petty Officer William Hogan of the US Navy. Her early life was not easy, due to her mother's illnesses; but Peggy's life changed dramatically and for the better at age 17 when she met the love of her life, Lee, a submariner in the US Navy who was sent to Kittery, Maine, to help supervise the construction of the U.S.S. Seadragon (the Navy’s 6th nuclear submarine). Lee was immediately taken with Peggy's grace, poise, and gentle humor; and Peggy was charmed by Lee's quirky humor and his exuberant goodheartedness. They were married on December 6 1959, and when the Seadragon shipped off to Pearl Harbor in the summer of 1960, Peggy moved to Lee's hometown of Portland Oregon to live with his family. After Lee was discharged from the Navy, the couple went on to adopt two children and have two biological children, and to have many adventures, challenges and blessings throughout almost 66 years of marriage.
Peggy was a true homemaker and nurturer. Her greatest joys in life were her Christian faith, her husband and family, the innumerable pets she rescued over the years, cooking, reading, and watching the wild birds at the many feeders in her yard. Peggy's gentle, sweet spirit shone through in everything she did, and her family will miss her beyond words.
She leaves behind her cherished husband, Lee; her children Colleen, David (Kara), Dorothy Janelle Bryant (Herb), and Mary (Josh Dalton); grandson Brennen; granddaughters Anna Beth, Morgan and Hannah; sister Joy Black (Dennis) and brother Lawrence Hogan; sister-in-law Judy Odell McAllister (Dennis); bonus son Jonas Freeman; and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Teresa Hogan Fish (Robert).
A memorial will be held on November 1, 2025, at 1:30pm, at Good Roots Community Church in Milwaukie
