Marie (Marg) Marguerite Larocque (née Dozois) passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026. Marg was born on October 5, 1924, to Oscar and Adele (née Montminy) Dozois in Tilbury North, Ontario, Canada. At 101 years of age, she leaves a legacy of warmth, humor, optimism, and, most of all, of finding joy in the simple things.
The oldest of six and the only girl, Marg grew up playing alongside her five brothers, with just enough mischief that she later joked, “my poor mother.” Marg enjoyed traveling from a young age, often taking weekend trips with family and friends to Port Stanley or Sturgeon Falls.
Marg was working as a seamstress when she met Albert (Al) Larocque in Chatham, Ontario. They were married on February 3, 1951, and had two children, Vincent and Denise. The family relocated to Southern California in the early 1960s and settled in Thousand Oaks (T.O.) for the next forty-plus years. There, she raised her kids with love and devotion. She and her family made trips back to see Canadian relatives regularly, and when family came to see them in T.O., Disneyland was a favorite destination. When Marg’s daughter’s family relocated to Post Falls, Idaho, in 1999 (Al had already passed), Marg and her son followed.
Marg was a devoted baseball and hockey fan, and she was known to enjoy a good hockey fight, even better if she got to watch it in the company of her next-door neighbors. She rooted for the Canadiens, Maple Leafs, and Blue Jays, but her favorite of all were the LA Dodgers.
Family was her greatest love, which she showed with unbounded patience, openness, care, and warmth. She was a beloved sister, staying in touch with her brothers and their families, even as they all reached into their 90s. Even in her later decades, she was always up for a getaway with family, to places like Leavenworth or the Oregon Coast, and she’d never say no to a jaunt to the casino.
She was a devoted grandma and great-grandma, always willing to help out, whether that was lending a few bucks for a car repair or letting one of her great-granddaughters give her a “makeover.” She was a beacon of support, always a good sport for a little prank, a known cheater at rummy.
At 99, she moved to Miramont Pointe Senior Living in Clackamas, Oregon, to be closer to her granddaughter’s family. A lifelong Catholic, she was happy to find friendship in the Catholic community at Miramont, including weekly Mass and communion. Marg found comfort in her faith throughout her life, her rosary in hand during her final days.
Marg was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her children, Vincent and Denise; and her brothers Vince Dozois, Louis Dozois, and Maurice Dozois. She is survived by her grandson, John Ferrie; granddaughter, Sarah Nipper (Brandon); great-grandchildren Harlee Ferrie, Kate Nipper, and August Nipper; and her brothers Jerry Dozois and Lawrence Dozois.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Marg’s memory by taking a page from her book: go sit in the sun, take a walk, listen to the birds. Find the joy.
Services will be held at a later time.
