Lindy grew up in Stevenson, WA and graduated from Stevenson High School in 1951. She worked as an aide at Shriner’s Hospital in Portland before attending nursing school at a Providence School of Nursing, graduating with the class of 1955. Lindy worked at Providence Portland Medical Center as a registered nurse for 35 years, retiring in 1990, and was extremely proud of her work at Providence Hospital. She survived three various cancer diagnoses and treatments over the last 20 years, but succumbed to recent lung cancer from smoking for many years of her life. She never married or had children, living for 60 years with her best friend Pat Leitheiser who predeceased her in December 2014.
They enjoyed having dachshunds (first Heidi, then Penny), the purchase of two homes together, and frequent trips to the Oregon coast and other travel destinations. Also predeceasing her in recent years were brothers Frosty Miller of Vancouver, WA, and Gerald Miller of Redding, CA. Lindy is survived by sister-in-law Winona Miller of Redding, CA, nephews John Miller of Moss Beach, CA and Paul Miller of Redding, CA, and nieces Susan Ramos of Redding, CA and Leslie McClellan of San Leandro, CA.
Memorial gifts for Lindy Miller may be made in her honor to cancer research of any kind, Providence Portland Medical Center, or Providence Hospice.
