We lost our beloved father, Max Zugman, September 5, 2017. He was in the care of wonderful caregivers and staff at RN Villa Assisted Living in Portland, for the last 18 months after living in him own home for 61 years. He was surrounded by daughters, Jeanne Hanson and Jan Zugman; “adopted” daughter, Marsha Molstrom; and granddaughters, Jennifer and Julie Olson. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 26, 1921, Max and his family moved to Portland a year later. He worked for his father, Misha, at Zugman’s Jewelry in the 1950’s and Montgomery Ward as Jewelry Manager from 1962 to 1984. He fully enjoyed retirement with family and friends. Max was the light of everyone’s life with an unparalleled joy for life. He always saw the bright side, was kind, silly, fun, and loved to make people laugh. He loved dogs and was known as “The Dogfather”. He was also known as “The Hugger” for his great hugs. Max could recite your address and license plate from 50 years ago. The world has lost a shining star. He was preceded in death by his parents, Misha and Rose; wife, Marie Cowling; siblings, Harry (Eileen) Zugman and Celia (Earl) Heims; and brother, Jack Zugman, killed during WWII. He is survived by his daughters; granddaughters; great-grandson, Adam Russell; great-granddaughter, Eloise Kwiatkowski; brother-in-law, John Cowling; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
