Michael (Mike) Moeller, 83 years old, died peacefully at Holladay Park Plaza. His wife of sixty years, Rhoda, was closeby and his attentive, loving family was at his side earlier and throughout his ten year journey living with Parkinson's.
Mike was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, on August 18, 1942, to public school teachers, Ruth Peterson Moeller and Burdette Moeller. He spent his early life in Rochester, MN. He attended Macalester College in St. Paul where he met Rhoda; and after graduating worked and traveled throughout western Europe. The love of travel stayed with him throughout his life.
One of Mike’s greatest joys in life was showing up for his children’s activities- family camping trips to National Parks, canoe trips to Boundary Waters, family time at a cabin in the woods. All the while, he was active in his church, served on work-related boards of directors and boards of nonprofits, sang in two choirs and took university classes toward a master’s degree. After retirement, Mike and Rhoda moved to Portland, OR, where they enjoyed what Oregon has to offer- hiking, dragon boating, kayaking symphony, and participation in Westminster’s choir.
Mike is remembered for his love of family, sense of humor, singing voice, physical strength, and his steady and calm disposition. He is survived by his wife, Rhoda; son, Mark (Kari); daughter, Melissa Sullivan (Monroe); grandchildren, Miles, Michael, Leo and Audrey; and four siblings, nieces and nephews.
For those wanting to celebrate Mike’s life with a gift, his family suggests the Northeast Emergency Food Pantry or Friends of the Columbia River Gorge (gorgefriends.org/donate).
