Bonnie was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 24, 1921 to Edward McCann and Magdalena Smithbauer as one of 4 children. Her siblings included Clement, Lester and Florence. She met her husband and soul mate Robert V Dubay in Minneapolis where they married in 1945 after the war. They moved to Colorado in 1962, then on to Oregon in 1964. While distanced from her immediate family, she maintained close ties to all family in the Minneapolis area and was adored by numerous nieces and nephews who cherished their "Aunt Bon". On her arrival to Oregon, she got involved in the Suburbanites, a Welcome Wagon for new neighbors. Whether she was participating in a formal group, or on her own, her grace in including and connecting everyone in her life was her special gift.
Bonnie was a devoted and loving wife and mother to her husband and five children. She lived a rich, full life and focused her energy as a homemaker and mother first and foremost. Her enduring legacy was building a nurturing home with unconditional love and support for her children that subsequently extended to spouses and grandchildren. However, in her early years she worked at Northwest Bank during the depression and loved working retail during the holiday season to mingle with people.
She will be best remembered by family and friends for her loving spirit, and gentle, caring soul, and as the First Lady of Rose Parkway where the family lived for 30 years. Her engaging, outgoing personality, along with her contagious smile and delightful laugh, were her trademark. There was never a problem too great or small for her to lend an ear and offer a kind word of wisdom.
She was predeceased by her cherished husband of 70 years Robert V. (August 2015); and son John Edward (March 2001)
She is survived by her sons Bob Dubay (Samantha), Dan Dubay (Lynn), Ron Dubay (Sherri) and daughter Jeanine Cavagnaro (Jim) and two grandchildren Ryan Dubay (Los Angles, California) and Maria Cavagnaro (Richmond, Virginia).
She lived her final years with dignity and grace, lovingly cared for by family and the staff of Cherrywood Village Parkview Memory Care.
Family suggests donations in Bonnie's name be made to Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.
