Owen Clair Shackleton Jr., of Alamo, CA passed away Friday, June 10, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. Owen was born in 1929 in St. John’s, OR and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1947 and the University of Oregon in 1954, graduating summa cum laude. He enlisted in the Marines from 1947 to 1952 and was selected for the FBI in 1954. He worked for the bureau in New York City, Detroit, Washington DC and Monterey CA, where he attended the Army Language School and spoke fluent Czech. A veteran of the Korean War, Owen went on to spend a prosperous career in the corporate security field. He retired in 1990, as the Director of Investigations for Region 5, for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Owen went on to work as a background investigator for the FBI from 1987 to 2001.
He is proceeded in death by his parents Owen and Ella Shackleton. Owen is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of 67 years, Barbara (Kennedy) Shackleton, his sons Owen (Marci) Shackleton, Scott (Karen) Shackleton, Allan (Lee) Shackleton and daughters Sheri Smith, Mary Beth Essa, Lori (Todd) Grewe, Barbara (Richard) Hooper, 13 grand children and 5 great grand children, his sister and brother-in-law Suzi (Ken) Willis and countless nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church (5227 N. Bowdoin St., Portland OR) at 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, June 21, 2022. Burial service with full military honors and reception will be held immediately following at 3:00 p.m., at Skyline Memorial Gardens, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland OR.
