Born in Chicago on July 30, 1921, Phyllis Alice Teed began her journey through life. She was the oldest of Leland and Helen Teed’s 3 children. Phyllis came from a long line of strong people, and her childhood battle with Rheumatoid Arthritis just made her stronger. She showed an interest in music at an early age, and despite her family’s Protestant faith, she attended the local Catholic High School for girls because of its excellent music department. Piano was her choice and she excelled in that forte', continuing her music education at Elmhurst College and Wheaton Academy. Her love of music continued all through her life.
When World War II began, Phyllis felt the tug of patriotism and enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard. She got her basic training at Palm Beach Fl,.and was stationed at Manhattan Beach C.G. Station in Long Island, N.Y. She attended Calvary Baptist Church on 58th St.in Manhattan which also had a Servicemen's Ctr. That's where she met her future husband, Jack Fallon, a cadet at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Long Island, N. Y. After graduation from the academy, Jack spent a year in the Pacific Theater and upon his return, Phyllis and Jack were married in Chicago.
Phyllis moved with Jack as his work took them to various locations in the U.S: Worcester, MA, Waterbury, CT., then to Chicago where they spent 22 years raising a family in Chicago. Their son, Paul, was born in April, 1952 and their daughter, Kathleen, arrived 1 ½ years later. Phyllis loved to cook and sew and was an amazing mother and super wife. No one could rival the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners that Phyllis created! She made life special and always knew how to bring family and friends together with good food, music and an infectious laugh.
In 1970, the family moved to Portland, OR. Phyllis and Jack attended Central Bible Church (CBC) and made life-long friendships there. An active church member, Phyllis served with Jack as the CBC Visitation Team for a number of years and was very involved with the people and programs there and in the service of the Lord. Phyllis graduated from Multnomah School of the Bible, as it was known then, and held those teachings close to her heart while sharing what she learned with others.
Phyllis, 93, passed away at her home in Portland on August 12, 2014. She was surrounded by her family. She enjoyed a wonderful life with her husband, Jack, for almost seventy years, and she was deeply loved by her children, family and friends. She will be greatly missed, but we rest in the promises of Our Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ, our and her Saviour and Lord.
