On January 6, 2023, Phyllis (Rierson) Jakes joined her beloved husband in Heaven. She was born on February 4, 1929 and was happy to meet her savior after 93 years on this earth. She was a loving wife and mother, who always welcomed friends and family into her life and a place at her table.
Her early childhood was lived in Amity, Oregon where she enjoyed the intimacies of small-town life. Later she moved with her family to Portland, OR and graduated from Grant High School. She earned an associates degree from Marylhurst College and worked in the dental field for half of her career. In mid-life she made a new career path in banking as a financial counselor.
A young man who had just returned from serving in World War II, found himself sitting in a dental chair where his future wife was assisting. Fortunately, he had really bad teeth and had to return several times to work up the nerve to ask her out on a date. She married George Jakes in August of 1950 and they enjoyed 60 years together until he passed away in 2010. Together they raised two daughters who are sincerely thankful to have had them as parents.
Phyllis and George lived their retirement years in Damascus Oregon where they worshiped and enjoyed fellowship at Damascus Community Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Jakes and two brothers, Alvin and Bob Rierson. She is survived by her daughters Karen Snow (Jerry), Cathy Reisig (Ray), grandchildren, Anna and Jake Prosser, one beloved sister-in-law, Karen Rierson and her best friend Delores Schmidt.
A memorial service will be held on January 21 at 1:00 pm at Damascus Community Church. 14251 SE Rust Way, Damascus, Oregon.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Damascus Community Church in Phyllis’ memory.
