

Phyllis was the youngest child of Selma and Charles Kangas. Phyllis had three sisters, Pearl, Violet, Delores, and a brother George.
She spent her early childhood years living on a farm in Clatskanie where her family grew mint. Her family then moved to Portland Oregon where she was attended grade school for several years in northwest Portland. Her family returned to Clatskanie where they ran a small dairy farm.
Phyllis attended Clatskanie High School and upon graduation in 1954 she attended the University of Oregon in Eugene for a year. She worked a summer at the Crater Lake National park lodge and then took a job at the Oregonian newspaper and worked in the accounting department until she retired in 2001. She was the Assistant Controller in the Accounting Department for the Oregonian.
In 1959, Phyllis met the love of her life, Thomas Albert Wood and they were married on April 2, 1960. In 1962, Nancy Lee, their daughter, was born. Phyllis took a 3 month leave from her job at the Oregonian to care for Nancy.
Phyllis and Tom enjoyed traveling. They purchased three different motor homes and travelled nearly all of the states. The more notable trips were to Yellowstone, Disneyland, Hawaii, Alaska, and time spent in West Virginia visiting the Wood family.
In 1993, Phyllis and Tom purchased a beach cabin in Netarts Oregon where they enjoyed spending their summer weekends.
Phyllis is survived by her husband Tom Wood, daughter, Nancy Niska and her husband Rick, stepson Ron Wood, and five grandchildren, Michelle Niska, Timothy Niska, Rachel Larsen, Jacob Niska, and Joseph Niska.
