

He was raised and partially educated in Columbus, attending grade and elementary school. He later moved with his parents to San Diego where Ray attended LaJolla and San Diego High Schools. Following high school Ray enlisted into the United States Marine Corps where he served during the Korean Conflict. Amongst the citations he received, he was twice awarded the Purple Heart. He returned to San Diego following his discharge in 1953 and in 1954 he was united in marriage to Karolyn Morrill. Ray remained in San Diego for the next 36 years. While in San Diego he worked for Bank of America, the County Assessor’s Office and did social work for San Diego County. Ray retired in the late 80’s, remaining in San Diego until he and Karolyn moved to Beaverton, OR in 1989 and to Forest Grove in 1990 where he has remained since. Karolyn passed away in 2002. Ray later met Sharon Rust and August 29th, 2004 they were married in Hillsboro, OR. Ray had many things that were important to him, first was his family. Other interests include baseball, which he coached his son at, golfing, Bad Mitten, Lob Ball, Pool, traveling and history.
In addition to his wife Karolyn, Ray was preceded in death by his son: Kenny Earhart in September of this year and his grandson: Shaun Cover in August of 2007.
He is survived by his wife: Sharon Earhart of Forest Grove, OR; daughters: Karen McMurphy of Yuma, AZ; Linda Sedgwick of San Diego, CA; step-daughter: Dee Dee French of Tampa, FL; granddaughter: Kristin Earhart of Portland, OR; grandsons: Josh Earhart of Beaverton, OR and Kevin Sedgwick of San Diego, CA.
