Richard Conner

Richard Graham Conner, 75, of Portland, Oregon, passed away at his home on April 14, 2014. Richard is survived by his wife Ida of 50 years, daughters Kathlyn Greubel and Christina McAlmond, son in laws Scott Greubel and Nate McAlmond, grandchildren Kristi Greubel, Nickolas Greubel, Kayleigh McAlmond, Trenton McAlmond, and Kassidy McAlmond, and great grandson Adam Munoz and his many loving extended family members. Richard was a loving father, husband, and Papa. Richard was born February 18, 1939 in Portland, Oregon to Fred and Josephine Conner.  Richard attended Benson High School and graduated in 1957.  After high school he joined the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego. Richard was introduced to the love of his life, Ida Peterson on a blind date.  They were married June 25, 1964 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Beaverton, Oregon.   He worked in a few varied jobs including disc jockey for a St. Helen's based radio station.  However, his longest tenure was serving as Plant Manager for Newport Layton, a pillow and bedspread manufacturing company, working there with Ida for over 20 years until he retired in 2004.  Richard loved Star Trek and was a true Trekkie.   He attended many conventions and was always pleased with toys and paraphernalia from the franchise.  He enjoyed traveling in his motorhome and some of his favorites destinations were the Oregon Coast, Bend, Oregon and Northern California.  Richard also enjoyed watching movies, spending time on his computer and listening to old time radio. Richard always enjoyed spending time with his family and was quite the inventor- configuring everyday objects to become more efficient and useful.  He was also an animal lover - making many beloved pets part of his family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 2:00pm at his daughter's home located at 15575 SW Brighton Ct, Beaverton, OR 97007. The family hopes friends and extended family will attend and share stories and photos.
