
Impressions

There’s a time in our lives when we recognize an impression someone has made on the the life of another. Perhaps the passing of an individual is one of those times. 

An impression is not to be confused with being impressed. Though the life and times of one’s life might have been impressive, leaving an impression is far greater than impressing someone, at least in this context. 

When one leaves an impression, he or she leaves a lasting thought, a footprint in the minds and hearts of loved ones, a story told that’s not forgotten or perhaps an act of kindness that leads others to want to follow. 

It’s clear to me, even with limited personal knowledge of the man himself, that  Richard Andrew Jacobson left an impression on those he loved and in the community in which he dwelled and served. I say this from observation of his immediate family whom I’ve had the privilege of meeting; especially Natasha and Katia; his daughters. 

I’ve heard of the creative stories he told to both of them; about little mice that went on adventures, while living in a shoebox in a home. He excited the minds of his two young daughters; leaving an impression they would never forget. 

As a father, he led by example, teaching his family life’s essentials; the difference between right and wrong, the value of family, kindness and care for others and the importance of education. He left an impression on the live’s of his family that will and has carried forward to the lives of others. 

He was a provider, one that worked hard in his business, toiled to provide for his family, while showing them the respect they deserved with gentle acts of love and concern for others. He lived not to impress, he made a lasting impression. 

It would be hard to believe this man didn’t make an impression on many others along the way. Humbly living, not to impress, yet making an impression for a difference.  

Richard Andrew Jacobson, loved father and friend, made an impression.
