
Richard (Dick) Millington passed away on December 24, 2014. He was born on April 30, 1930 in Portland, Oregon to parents Orpha Mae Baker and Harold Ray Millington. Dick spent his entire life living in the SE Portland area, and graduated from Franklin High School. Dick served honorably in the United States Army from 1950 through 1953. He loved staying in touch with people, and even remained in touch with people from his 8th grade Woodstock Elementary School class.
On October 16th, 1954, Dick married Joanne Susaeta in Portland, Oregon. They were married until March 27, 1970 and had three children together – Dan, Brad and Shireen.
On July 17, 1982, Dick married Lana Hulburt in Portland, Oregon. Together they shared 32 years of marriage.
Dick loved working with people. He worked in medical sales for most of his life, but after retirement he went to work for Meier and Frank’s in the men’s department. In May of 2007 Dick was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He never let it slow him down, and instead became active in Parkinson’s research, participating in research at OHSU & facilitating a support group at Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon that met once a month. He also served as Ombudsman for the state as an advocate for residents at care facilities.
Dick loved to walk, and together with his best friend Dick Willis he walked the Portland Marathon many times, as well as the Portland to Coast Relay, and on Dick’s 70th birthday they both walked 70 miles in 24 hours to raise money for Committed Partners for Youth, a group Dick was involved with for 10 years in the 90s that mentors at risk youth.
Dick was preceded in death by his sister Barbara (Bobbi) Jean Bates who passed in April 2014. He is survived by his wife, Lana Millington; children Dan Millington, Shireen Millington, Brad Millington & Jay Inverso (spouse); grandchildren Stephanie, Kyle, and Kevin Niezgoda, and great-grandson Isaiah Niezgoda.
Throughout his life, Dick’s faith remained important to him, and gave him peace in his last weeks. He attended New Hope Community Church. His memorial service will be held there on Wednesday December 31, 2014 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson’s Resources of Oregon, 3975 Mercantile Drive, Lake Oswego, OR 97035.
