Robert Wilson Stoecklein

Portland, OR. - Robert “Bob’ Wilson Stoecklein, 88, of Portland, Oregon, passed away Monday December 3, 2012. Bob was born in Dayton, Ohio to George and Helen (Hammond) Stoecklein on February 10 1924. He graduated from Oakwood High School and entered Miami University, though college was interrupted with service as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army commencing in 1944. He served both in the U.S. and in post-war Japan and upon return graduated from Miami University. He began his business career with Proctor & Gamble and spent most of his business career at Illinois Tool Works, including as the general sales manager for Shakeproof, which was then the largest division of ITW. He retired in 1981 and soon thereafter moved to Portland Oregon where he married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Lusch, on October 24, 1987. He spent the remainder of his life sailing, playing golf and in a variety of civic activities such as tutoring and mentoring elementary school children. Bob was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Stoecklein, in 2005 and by his parents.

Bob is survived by his wife Peggy, his five children, Roberta Shrope of Dexter, MI, Jeff (Margaret) of Evanston, IL, David (Katherine) of Gilberts, IL, Matt of Elgin, IL and Jennifer (Peter) Barnstien of Puyallup, WA, as well as Peggy’s four children, Roy (Carrie), Carol Jane Hillman and Barbara Lusch all of Portland and Peggy Sue Brown of White Salmon, WA, plus 16 grandchildren, Katrina and Kyle of Elgin, Alex, Madeleine and Sally of Evanston, Andrew and Lindsay of Gilberts and Helen, Zane and Margaret of Puyallup, Alexandria of Richmond, IL, Erin, Ryan, Kylie, Juliet and Summer of Portland and Jackson of Elgin and two great grand children Ellie and Izzy of Richmond, IL as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his older brother George “Bud” Stoecklein of Oxford, Ohio.

A military Service of Remembrance will be held Friday at 2 P.M. at Lincoln Memorial Park and Funeral Home 11801 SE Mount Scott Blvd, Portland, Oregon (Telephone 503-771-1117).
