Roland “Buz” Painter, 75, passed away on September 9, 2025, in Merlin, Oregon. Born on March 13, 1950, in Portland, Oregon, Buz lived a life marked by warmth, faith, and a deep connection to people from all walks of life.

From an early age, Buz had a voice that could light up a room—and eventually the airwaves. He dedicated his entire career to radio broadcasting, working as a DJ throughout his life. His passion for music and storytelling resonated with countless listeners over the years. Whether spinning records or sharing anecdotes between songs, Buz brought joy and companionship to those who tuned in. His talent behind the microphone was matched only by his genuine kindness and magnetic personality.

Buz was known for being outgoing and friendly—he never met a stranger. His polite demeanor and open heart made him beloved by many. He traveled extensively across the United States, embracing every opportunity to connect with new people and places. These journeys were not just about seeing the country but about experiencing its diverse communities and cultures firsthand.

A man of deep faith, Buz faithfully attended Jerome Prairie Bible Church. His Christian values guided his actions and relationships throughout his life. He hoped to be remembered as a caring Christian man—a legacy he fulfilled through his compassion and unwavering belief in treating others with respect and love.

Buz is survived by his devoted wife, Sonia Painter, and his sister, Cheryl Howard. He was preceded in death by his father, Roland Painter, and mother, Mercedes Painter.

Charitable donations in Buz’s name can be made to the American Diabetes Association and the Alzheimer’s Association.

A graveside service for Roland will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, OR 97229.
