Ted passed away at home at the age of 72. He was born in York, PA to Theodore and Mary Bosick Long and graduated from York Catholic High School. He received his BA in English from the University of Dayton and did his graduate studies in English at the University of Idaho and the University of Oregon. Ted’s love of the English canon was highly regarded by all who knew him. He was a Teaching Fellow at the University of Oregon when he was drafted and sent to Vietnam, where he served with the 1st Cavalry Division as a UH-1 Crew Chief. Shortly after returning home, Ted began a 30-year career with the Oregon Department of Corrections during which time he served the state in many capacities, notably as Assistant Superintendent at the Oregon State Penitentiary. Ted retired in 2003, devoting his retirement years to—among other things—cars, music, and his family.
There will be a private interment with full military honors at Willamette National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will take place at 2 pm on Saturday, October 4 at Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary. Visit www.finley-sunsethills.com for more information on Ted’s life.
Ted is survived by his wife Patricia Haugen Long, his daughter Jessica, son-in-law Nick Sweeney, sons Joshua and Jordan, daughter-in-law Rachel Munoz, and grandchildren Logan, Katisyn and Jacob.
