

William Lee Haines was born in Libby, Montana to parents William D. Haines and Donna J. (DeShazer) Haines on July 14, 1972. He was brother to Rick, Mary, Dean, Jeana, Ward, and Colleen. He grew up in Montana and graduated from Troy High School in Troy, Montana in 1990. From early age, Bill was recognized by his instructors for his high intelligence and aptitude for computers and programming.
Shortly after graduation Bill joined the US Navy where he went on to be stationed in Pensacola, Florida and later Bremerton, Washington. In the US Navy, Bill served as a radar man on the USS Texas (C6N-39) Nuclear Missile Cruiser. In his third year of Naval service his ship was decommissioned and Bill chose an early discharge.
Shortly following Bill’s honorable discharge from the Navy, he entered the Job Corps. In 1994, Bill received a computer field service and LAN tech diploma from Job Corps. Sometime after receiving his diploma Bill went to work for Kelly Services and through them, as a contract employee for Intel in Hillsboro, Oregon. Bill worked at Intel for many years and It was a very proud time in Bill’s life when he earned the position of team lead of his department.
Bill married Pauline Hughes in Calgary, Canada in 1998. They later separated but maintained and amicable relationship.
It has been said that Bill was a person who for the most part kept to himself and was someone who was really into his computers. Bill’s close friends were the same way. He had a true passion for computers and he was always building, programming, and improving his own computers and helping others improve their computing experience. Bill was most generous to family and friends with kind advice and technical computer assistance; he was the family “I.T. guy”.
Bill enjoyed being immersed in online gaming; his favorites were World of Warcraft and Minecraft. Bill also had a great love for fantasy role playing – he engaged in weekly Dungeons & Dragons gaming sessions with a few of his close friends. He was a fan of Science Fiction and fantasy literature and was especially fond of the writings of R. A. Salvatore and the Dark Elf Trilogy as well as The Death Gate Cycle; a seven-part series of fantasy novels written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. One of Bill’s greatest loves was his long-time black and white cat companion Snuggles.
Bill, you were taken from us entirely too soon. You will be remembered as someone who would help anyone if you could. You were a kind and generous soul and you will be greatly missed.
Bill is predeceased by great-grandparents Ruby and Merwin Ward; grandfather Don DeShazer; and his beloved black and white cat companion, Snuggles, who passed away one month before Bill’s death.
Survivors include his mother Donna Davis; father, William “Bill” Haines; grandmother, Jean DeShazer; siblings Rick Morris, Mary Parker, Dean Morris, Jeana Stevens, Ward Davis, and Colleen Stevens; former wife, Pauline Hughes; his significant other, Jen Peterson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A public memorial service and reception gathering will be held to celebrate Bill’s life and memory at Skyline Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home chapel, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, Oregon, on Saturday, October 18, 2014, 2pm.
William will be privately laid to rest in Skyline Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Reflection.
