Son of Otto Tweed and Esther Nathalia (Carlson) Tweed
Graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School, then took two years further training to become a machinist at Benson Technical High School, thereafter entering an apprenticeship for his chosen trade. In 1962 he became a pattern maker when he went to work at Dependable Pattern Works.
Married Grace Lucille Milette in 1941, Vancouver, Washington
Following Grace’s death he had three different marriages:
Bonnie Belle Taylor
Alice O. Higley
Betty Tolman Service
He was a member of the Saint John’s Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for 62 years prior to his death. Fishing and working on his genealogy were his lifetime hobbies and activities along with service to his church and its membership. His fishing hobby was such that he began that as a little boy and continued until after he was no longer able to launch his boat. He referred to himself jokingly as “The Great Fisherman.” Regarding his genealogy research he managed to translate a Norwegian book of historical documentation of all present and past residents of the area of Norway that his father was from, dating back to the earlier 1400s. Patriotism was of great importance to him during his lifetime, so as a young man and first-time father, he enlisted and served in the World War II Pacific Theatre, United States Navy on the Fletcher class Destroyer, USS Laws DD558, ending his service with a rating of Fireman 1st class and numerous ribbons and medals:
His survivors are his children; Marjorie Tweed-Brown, Linda L. Tweed, David L. Tweed, and Eric L. Tweed and his wife Cathy; grandchildren are: Kirsten Morris, Heather Galvez and husband Dan, Rebecca Caizero and husband Enrique, Kaari Perkins, Andy L. Tweed, Bryan L. Tweed. Great grandchildren are Samantha Parsons and her husband Bryan, Shariah Boisa, Ryan Boisa, Kristoffer Boisa; Camille, Celeste, and Diego Galvez; Dahlia Caizero; great great grandchildren are Alexandria Parsons and Vincent Parsons of Post Falls, Idaho; his two cousins: Burdette Carlson Pederson and her husband, Brad of Minnesota near where The Carlson homestead was founded in Little Falls and Harold Carlson also of Minnesota.
It would be of paramount importance that the children who came into his life via marriage should also be mentioned: Beth and Dan Pederson and their children, Cathy and Dan Gibb, and their children, Chris and Sheryl Taylor and their children, Vicky and Greg Alolf and their children, and Serena Hall and her children. Having been an only child, Bill learned to laugh and play during his association with these children. He had a deep and abiding love for each of these people; as well as Grant Higley, who continued to be a fast friend down until the end of Bill’s life. He also had a love and affection for the children and grandchildren of Harry and Betty Jean Service. It is also noteworthy that Bill had a great affection for Kermit Kirby, who came into his life as a young boy—this friendship blossomed over the years, and they became great fishing buddies, and life long friends. It is also appropriate to mention Margie Pace, who with such daughterly love and devotion, worked so diligently on Bill's genealogical records; he truly looked upon her as being one of his daughters.
He was preceded in death by his wife of many years, Grace Milette who was born Grace Pinger; as well as his great grandchild Griffin Anders Tweed.
The dedication of the grave will be held Monday December 3, 2012 at Skyline Memorial Gardens, Portland Oregon 97229, where he will be interred alongside his wife, Grace Tweed in Skyline’s The Garden of Everlasting Life.
There will be a celebration of his life at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, St Johns ward building, located at 5620 N Bowdoin, Portland, OR 97203 at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 8, 2012
