Bruce E. Barney

Bruce is survived by his sister Myra Barney Gonyo and husband Kevin of Buckeye, AZ and his nephew Kristopher Gonyo of Quilcene, WA. He is also survived by his brother Brian’s children, Corey Barney of Rensselaer Falls, NY, Curtis Barney of Canton, NY and McKenzie Barney Kimble and her husband Jordan of Waddington, NY.

He is predeceased by his parents, his brother Brian K Barney and his partner Laurie Noble.

Bruce was a graduate of Potsdam Central High School, class of 1983. He was recruited and given a football scholarship to Grinnell College (Midwest Conference/Division III) in Iowa. As a Grinnell Pioneer freshman, he earned his varsity letter in football. He later returned to his home state of NY and continued his education in the SUNY system where he ultimately graduated with a bachelor’s degree.

Bruce especially enjoyed creative endeavors such as writing and reading a variety of books. His prized possession, his guitar, provided Bruce with satisfaction and joy as he expressed himself through his music. He enjoyed walking and became a fixture and familiar face to the residents of Potsdam. He was a peaceful man, who enjoyed the simplicity of living.

The family deeply appreciates the support and kindness provided by his friends and neighbors and the community over the past years.

No funeral services will be held, but in the Spring, Bruce will rest peacefully in Riverside Cemetery with his mother, father and brother.
