Mr. George J. Barney

On Friday, September 13, 2013 George J. Barney, age 82 peacefully passed away at home under the loving care of his family and Hospice and Palliative Care ofSt. Lawrence Valley in Potsdam. He was born September 15, 1930 in the Potsdam Hospital to Roy Barney and Margaret Delisle Barney. He graduated from Potsdam Central School. He married Barbara Hayes on November 11, 1950.For over 30 years, he was employed in the maintenance department at SUNY Potsdam.

Mr. Barney is survived by his two daughters, Stephanie Murray (Garth) of Norfolk, NY; Kim Hayes (Steve) of Potsdam; two sons Steve Barney (Holly) of Sterling, MA; and Kurt Barney of Potsdam. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Barney is also survivedby a sister Nancy Northrup (Karl) of Rochester, NY; a sister-in-law Joyce DelBalzo of Syracuse, NY and a brother in-law Dan Hayes (Sylvia) of Rochester,NYas well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara in 2006 as well as his brothers Roy, Jr., Donald and Louis Barney and sisters Virginia Robillard and Linda Barney.

There will be no calling hours. A committal sevice will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Potsdam for both George J. and his wife Barbara H. Barney at 11 am on Friday, September 27, 2013. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Online condolences can be sent @www.garnerfh.com.
