Gerald V. Snell

Gerald Vincent Snell of Parishville New York died peacefully surrounded by family on March 5, 2019 at the Maplewood Campus in Canton NY where he had resided for almost 23 years at age 75. Born in Potsdam, NY he was the oldest of 5 children. He was born April 8, 1943 to Vincent and Marion Snell. Gerald married Bonnie Snell on October 19, 1968 and together they had 6 children. Tracey (Craig Rombough) Texas, Gina (Mark Ahrens) Ogdensburg NY, Geri Lynn (Ricky Wilson) Parishville NY, Jamie Parishville NY, Jonathan (Stephanie Snell) Parishville NY, Kelly (Andrew Finen) Parishville NY and Gerald also has a daughter Laura (Patrick Nolan) Oneida NY. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Snell, Brother James (Jim) (Diana Snell), sister Sandra Sebastian and all of his children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Vincent and Marion Snell, and two brothers Gordon and Paul Snell, grandbabies Hudson Snell, Jacob Snell and Riley Johnson. Gerald attended Parishville Hopkinton School and went into the Army where he served his Country proud. He worked for the Town of Parishville Highway Department for many years as a Machine Equipment Operator. In addition to his job, Gerald worked in construction and masonry work to provide for his family where he passed down this trade and work ethic to his boys. His love of hunting has continued on in his children and grandchildren and the memories he has given are countless. His life was changed by a medical condition but with that brought him to a life full of deep friendships of the residents at Maplewood Campus Nursing Home along with a huge family made up of the staff and faculty at that facility which will also be in his family's heart as those connections were life changing for not only Gerald but his family that witnessed that love. Arrangements are with Garner Funeral Home. Calling hours will be Friday March 8th from 4 to 7 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 at St. Mary’s Church in Canton NY and burial will be at a later date in the spring at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made to the Parishville Fire Department or to the Chapel Hill Cemetery fund as the family would like to use donations to provide new fencing to the cemetery. He was a loving, kind man that loved his children and grandchildren and will be missed by all that knew him. Condolences can be shared @www.garnerfh.com.
