Glenda was born to the late Noah and Mavis McCullers December 12, 1939, in Sylacauga, Alabama, before relocating with her family to Wallsboro, Alabama, where she grew up. Glenda graduated from Wetumpka High School in 1958 and began her first job at Forbes Piano Company located in Montgomery, Alabama, in April 1959 where she sold sheet music and books and demonstrated pianos and organs. In 1960 she took a job at Nolen McInnis Refrigeration and Electronics where she worked until 1962 when expecting Annette. From 1974 - 1979 she served as church secretary for Calvary Baptist Church in Prattville, Alabama. Glenda was a treasured employee at Prattville Drug and Gift in the business office from July 1979 until the business closed. She worked at Adams Drugs August 1999 until May 2005 when she retired.
She married the late George Andrew “Andy” Dawson August 6, 1960 and they lived in Prattville where their three children were born. In 1998, she married Cecil Cox. Survivors include husband Cecil Cox, sister Bobbie Jean Martin, sister-in-law Nina McCullers, three children, Annette Todd (Dewey), Buddy Dawson (Gwen), Gina Moore (Gordon) and two stepdaughters, Janice Cleveland (David) and Annette Gladden (Larry). She was “Nana” to all her grandchildren and great- grandchildren and Aunt Glenda to many beloved nieces and nephews. Grandchildren Blake Dawson (Summer), Richard Dawson, Justin Moore (Kristin), Kayla Brown (Wes), Haley Todd (Max), Will Todd (Tori) Amber Cooper (Kyle), Ashley Cooper, Brandon Cooper, Jonathon Valentine (Katie) and great-grandchildren Drew, Autumn, Blakely, Evelyn, Reece, Rylee Ann, Dawson, Haysten, Kyle, Bentley and Lynkoln have all brought her great joy. In addition, she has been loved by a host of extended family, some blood related and others by choice. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Anna Faye McCullers, brother Raybon McCullers, brother-in-law Charles Martin, granddaughter Eliana Moore, nephew Brian Collier, niece Kasey McCullers and nephew Cory McCullers.
Glenda will be remembered for her Christian faith, kindness and strength, but mostly for the way she loved and cared for family and friends. The Calvary Baptist Church family held a special place in her heart. Her volunteer efforts in the church have been part of her everyday life since the early 1960’s. She served as organist and sang in the choir for many years and always made sure the sanctuary was decorated beautifully for special occasions. One of her favorite pastimes was fishing. Through the years she loved taking the kids fishing with her. Her flower gardens were always a sight to behold. She definitely got her “green thumb” from her mother. An amazing cook, she loved sharing food and fellowship with everyone and was even known to bake pies during the holidays and deliver to fire stations as well as performing many other random acts of kindness. She had a passion for traveling, whether short destinations or far away, including trips to New York City, Seattle, Alaska and Spain. In the latter years of her life, she was adventurous, skydiving at 75 years of age and riding laps at a race track at speeds up to 200 mph. Glenda’s legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who she prayed for fervently and were such sweet blessings to her. As a family it is our desire to honor her according to a Bible verse underlined in her Bible; “Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.” Philippians 1:27.
