He also served in the Alabama National Guard. He stayed active in his community serving for years on the Marbury Water Board as well as in his church, serving as a Deacon and Sunday-School teacher. His favorite time was spent with his wife Nancy at their cottage in Maine, Enjoying the community there and hunting for bargains at yard sales. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, woodworker, welder, mechanic, and a jack of all trades whenever something needed doing. He and Nancy, married 65 years, spent their lives making friends wherever they went. All of these traits and skills they passed on to their children.
Nancy was a graduate of Southern Union College and became a career housewife, mother, and grandmother. She was very active in the community and in her church where she played the piano and the organ. She was also a very creative baker and was known for her “Basket” cakes, wedding cakes, and many wonderful treats that appeared at holidays and potluck dinners. In addition to being creative baker she was a talented seamstress, sewing clothes for the family in the early years. She was an avid collector of antiques, dolls, plates- just about anything that captured her fancy, and she could not bear to pass up a yard sale. She also loved spending time in Maine during the spring and fall of each year. She and her husband Kerwin loved their children and were very active foster parents through the years.
Kerwin and Nancy both came to Christ at an early age. They had the gift of hospitality, they would open their hearts and home to people. They were also instrumental leaders at Union Congregational Christian Church in Marbury. Nancy played the organ there and Kerwin was deacon.
Faith, family and caring for others was the center of lives.
A Memorial Service for Kerwin and Nancy will be July 18, 2023 at Union Congregational Christian Church, Marbury, Al at 2:00 PM.
