Leslie Smith Northington, 75, of Prattville, Alabama, passed peacefully into Heaven on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, surrounded by his family. He is fondly remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather as well as a faithful friend to countless others he encountered.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Jennie Northington, his wife, Sandra Northington, his sister, Margaret Northington and a son, Peter Northington. He is survived by his loving wife of seven years, Shirley Northington of Prattville; three sons, John (Tonita) Northington of Homewood, James Northington of Prattville, and Stephen (Brittany) Northington of Prattville; two daughters, Pamela Northington of Berry, and Juanita (Lloyd) Biddle of Prattville; his brother, Peter Northington of Prattville; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and one great-grandchild.
Leslie spent his childhood in Prattville, Alabama, and later attended the University of Alabama where he met and married Sandra. He returned to Prattville and began a career that would span 38 years with Union Camp/International Paper where he made countless lifelong friends. He and Sandra raised five children and enjoyed many grandchildren throughout their marriage of 43 years before Sandra passed away in 2014. He later married Shirley in 2017 and they spent 7 wonderful years of love and happiness together. They enjoyed traveling the country, attending many events for their grandchildren, and faithfully worshiping God with their church family at East Memorial Baptist Church. 2 Timothy 4:7 states “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Leslie with the strength of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ did those things and loved us all so well along the way.
A time of visitation with the family and a celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, June 2, from 3-4pm at East Memorial Baptist Church, 1320 Old Ridge Road, Prattville, Alabama. The service will be presided over by Pastor Glenn Graham, Jr.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the East Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund.
