Michael Eugene Harter

Michael Eugene Harter, 77, passed away on January 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 8, 1948, in Richmond, Indiana to Marlowe William Harter and Mary Louise (Davis) Harter. He attended New Madison High School where he graduated in1967. Not long after high school he joined the United States Air Force in 1976 and retired in 1996, then went to work for Jefferson County Emergency Management from 1999 until his retirement in 2017.

He married Sue Ella Clark on September 20, 1969. When he wasn't working, he liked to travel with his family often taking trips to Disney or national parks. He also enjoyed collecting fire fighter memorabilia (which would take over the whole house) but what he loved most of all was just spending time with his family even if he just sat back and watched the chaos.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marlowe William Harter.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Ella Clark Harter; son, Stacey Harter and his wife, Christy Harter and their eldest daughter, Jordan Harter Brengle and her husband, Nick Brengle and their daughter, Kelsie Harter; daughter, Amy Harter Stokes and her husband, Mark Stokes and children, eldest son Cody Stokes and his wife, Marisa Stokes and their children, Casey and Saylor Stokes; his youngest daughter, Cayla Stokes Allred and her husband, Sawyer Allred; mother, Mary Louise Davis Harter and his sisters, Rebecca Harter Maxwell and Elizabeth Harter Willetts.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 18, 2026 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at Ridouts Prattville Chapel, 347 E. Main St. Prattville, Al. 36067. A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026 at 11:45 AM at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy. 119, Montevallo, Al. 35115.
