William O. Whittle, Jr., 56, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 21, 2021, at his home in Spanish Fort, Alabama. He was surrounded by family and encouraged by numerous calls and texts from his friends. William was raised in Hayneville, AL, attended Lowndes Academy and earned his degree from Troy University. He was in the environmental business for a number of years before starting his own insurance agency. Like his father, also an insurance agent, William took exceptional care of his customers and would spend hours on the phone and in person making sure they had the best coverage possible. Even during his last months of chemo, he could be found on the phone talking with a client while propped up in bed. He loved the outdoors and the adventures it brought, moving at one point to Colorado to experience living in the Rockies. William was a kind, caring man, always ready with a joke and a quick smile. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Helen and Bill Whittle and leaves behind his son, William O. Whittle, III (Trey), his stepdaughter Kathryn Stallworth, his sisters Angela James and Rosemary Blackmon, brothers-in-law, Tim James and Johnny Blackmon, and the following nieces and nephews: Fleming James (Tyler), Sarah James (Mark David), Tim James (Ann Turner), Brooks Blackmon (Jordan), Olivia Oliphant (Jonathan) and great nephew Tim James.
Due to COVID, a family service and burial will be held in Hayneville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Special Olympics, www.specialolympics.org/alabama.
