Amie Rosaline Gibson (Nee Shuffler) was born on July 1, 1941, on the beautiful island of Barbados, West Indies. She loved her family and home island but moved to Canada in 1965 to follow her greater love, Hartley Willard Gibson. They were married in Montreal in 1965 and moved to Labrador City, Newfoundland, where they lived for the next 16 years, and their two children Christopher and Suzanne were born. In 1979, they moved to St. Vincent and the Grenadines and were there for the next 37 years. Most of those years were spent caring for Hartley’s parents and entertaining countless friends and workers on the convention grounds. She also spent many months, over the years, visiting her children and siblings in Canada. In 2016, because of health issues, they both returned to Canada and settled into Gateway Lodge in Prince George, where she resided until a week before she passed.
Her last week was spent at the McBride Hospital, where she was with family every hour until the end. She passed quietly on August 25, 2021, in the McBride Hospital in British Columbia, Canada with her two children, Chris and Suzanne, by her side.
She loved life with a passion, and enjoyed time with family, travelling, visiting, and playing games; but her greatest love was pleasing God. When she was 11 years old, she made her choice to serve God. She was concerned about her soul, because, in her words, she was “not too young to die.” Her advice to her children was often, “Please God, and anyone else worth pleasing will be pleased.”
She is survived by son Christopher Gibson and his wife Janet and their children Loren Gibson, Tana Barry(Lindon), Danelle Sutherland (Matt), Gena Gibson and Chase (Jenita) Gibson; daughter Suzanne and her husband Jonathan Mazereeuw and their children Chelan Gregg (Matt), Jayda, Coral, and Bronya; siblings Earnest Shuffler (Margaret), Loreta Jordan (Melville), Sylvia Veldkamp-Shuffler, Earlyn Shuffler (Beverly), Eglon Shuffler (June), Alban Shuffler, Mona Shuffler, and Clement Shuffler (Marina) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
