Bruce was born on August 19, 1939, in Crooked River, Saskatchewan. In 1951 he settled in Prince George, British Columbia, where he lived the remainder of his life.
Bruce is lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Lilley; his daughters Julie Byfield (Kelly) and Linda Doerges (Bruce); and his grandchildren Vanessa, Jenna, Daniel, Ryan and Nicole. He will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Carl and Erma Lilley; his sisters Pat (Tom) Behm and Carol (Bob) Tindale.
Bruce was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who took great pride in his family. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth Sophia Strilkowski, on April 23, 1960. Together they built a wonderful life centred on family, hard work and love.
Bruce dedicated 44 years to the forestry industry before retiring in 2000. He enjoyed carpentry and had a gift for building and creating with his hands. He loved constructing model airplanes, tending to his garden and spending time outdoors camping and fishing with family. Many cherished memories were made around campfires, on fishing trips and through the countless ways he shared his knowledge and skills with those he loved.
Bruce and Elizabeth also shared a love of travel, creating wonderful memories together throughout Canada, the United States and Mexico--with Hawaii holding a special place in Bruce’s heart.
Bruce’s family will forever cherish the love, guidance and support he gave throughout his life. His legacy lives on in the memories he created, the lessons he taught and the family he loved so deeply.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. A. Ahmed, various doctors, nurses and healthcare providers who cared for Bruce with such compassion throughout his cancer journey.
He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
A Celebration of Bruce’s Life will be held at a future date
