Clarence Walter Boudreau

Clarence was born in Penny, BC, and lived there for over 80 years. He met the love of his life, Olga when she came to Penny to teach school in 1950 and they were married shortly after. They remained married for over 70 years.

He and Olga left Penny after a motor vehicle accident in 2011 required them to live closer to medical care. They then moved into their current home in North Nechako and he started writing songs. Using the name of Penny Slim, he became well known as a country singer / songwriter. He was never shy about promoting his music and he was frequently heard asking waitresses or complete strangers “Do you know who I am?” This was usually followed up by a lengthy conversation and ended up with him presenting them with one of his CD’s, which he always had stashed away in his jacket pocket.

Music was always an integral part of Clarence’s life and he never liked to miss a dance at the Brunswick Seniors Centre. He always wanted to get there early so he could get “his” table where he would spend the evening visiting and listening to various bands. He loved these events and through this he met and became good friends with many local musicians.

Clarence was predeceased by his wife Olga; his parents Joe and Bessie Boudreau; siblings Isabelle, Eveline, Joey, Josie, Jack, Margaret and June; his daughter Diane Louise; son-in-law Peter Koppe; and granddaughter Thea Palmer.

He is survived by his children Dan (Britta), Larry (Donna), Maxine (Dave) and Jenny (Trevor); 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He will be forever remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many special friends.

His family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Barend Grobbelaar, who became a close friend, Dr. Syal and to dear friend Dave Yarmish; who was always there for him. We would also like to thank Milly Saville who helped out so much during his final weeks, as well as all those who supported him and made life easier during the past few years.

A Celebration of Clarence’s Life will be held outdoors in the Spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brunswick Seniors Centre.
