Don was born on January 27th, 1951, in Perth, Ontario, to parents Francis (Frank) Edward Kerr and Mary Eleanor Byrne. He grew up around Perth and Stanleyville area and headed out west in 1974 settling in Prince George. In the coming years he met the future mother of his children Ann Ek. They had a daughter Kristine followed by a son Darryl. He maintained a close friendship with her until her passing in 2020.
Don enjoyed a successful career as a welder, first with Salton and later with Wellons. He took pride in his work and in the many years he spent building a life in Prince George.
Outside of work, Don enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved fishing and spending as much time as possible at his beloved cabin. He also loved his little dog, Loki, who was a constant companion and an important part of his life.
Don was always willing to lend a hand to his family. He especially enjoyed working alongside his son Darryl, helping to build and fix things and taking on projects together. Whether it was helping with a project, lending his skills, or simply being there when his family needed him, Don was someone they could count on.
Over the years, Don made many friends and valued the connections he made with the people around him. He enjoyed meeting friends at the dog park and going for coffee at the Alano Club, where he was a long-time member. These friendships and the people he met along the way became an important part of his life.
Don will be remembered by his family and friends for his love of the outdoors, his willingness to help others, his time spent with family, and the many memories shared over the years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Don was predeceased by his father, Francis (Frank), his mother, Mary, his infant brother, and his stepsiblings Theresa and Harold.
He leaves to mourn his partner, Sue; daughter Kristine; son Darryl (Lisa); brothers John and Dave, stepbrothers Tommy, and Francis; stepsister Lillith; and grandchildren Cameron, Ethan, Connor, Kiara, Daija, and Maisey, along with many other family members and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on November 1st from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Alano Club. Everyone is welcome to attend and share memories of Don.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alano Club or the BC Cancer Foundation in Don’s memory.
