Elizabeth (Betty) Josephine Neary

Betty is now at peace with the love of her life, Hugh. She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Laura and Maeve, along with her five grandchildren, Paul, Jake, Luke, Kevin and Amanda; her great grandchildren , Jayden, Taylor, Kaleb, Kacey, Sophia, Keeva, Kaiden, Zeondre, Charlotte, Veronica and many extended family.

As a mother, grandmother, aunt and friend she will always be lovingly remembered for her strength, her faith, her Irish hospitality and her unwavering devotion to her family.

Betty Immigrated to Canada from Ireland in 1957 with Hugh and baby daughter, Laura. Maeve arrived a few years later completing their family. They made their home in Calgary for 63 years before moving to Prince George in 2020 to be closer to their daughters.

Betty was a talented seamstress having honed her skills from the age of 14 while working as a hand tailor. She continued to enjoy sewing and quilting creations throughout her life. She was very active in her faith community. She served with CWL (Catholic Women’s League), St. Vincent de Paul Society, Inn from the cold organization, and the pastoral and liturgical ministries well into her eighties.

Betty and Hugh were an active couple enjoying hiking with different groups in the mountains and in the city. For decades they were active members of the ICS (Irish Cultural Centre) and they never missed a chance to dance as it brought them so much joy. Together they travelled the world experiencing adventures in Australia, China, Europe, along with cherished family trips to Mexico. Truly a life well lived.

Betty was predeceased by her husband, Hugh Patrick Neary (2022), her brother Jack Smith, her sister, May Colman, and her son-in-law, Peter Thorpe.

She will always be loved and missed and will live on in our hearts forever.
