He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandi; son Christopher Foucher (Tracy Mogus); daughter Chantelle Haessel (Don); and grandchildren Wade and Katie Haessel. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister Jeannine (Lance) Allard; mother-in-law Marjorie Thomson; brothers-in-law Jack Thomson (Lois) and Richie Thomson (Linda); and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he cherished deeply.
Florent was born in Zenon Park, Saskatchewan, and spent his early years there until the passing of his mother. His childhood was marked by resilience, moving between family members and private schools before returning to Zenon Park for Grade 12. In 1961, he moved to Prince George, where he began a long and meaningful career in the forest sector. He eventually joined Prince George Pulp & Paper in the Transportation Department and later the Fiber Supply Group.
It was during this time that Florent met the love of his life, Sandi. Together, they built a beautiful life and welcomed their son Christopher in 1976 and daughter Chantelle in 1977. In 1987, Florent took a new path, joining Excel Transportation Inc. as Operations Manager, eventually becoming General Manager and part owner. He retired in 2007, the same year he became a grandfather to Wade, followed by Katie in 2010.
He was a lifelong learner, an eloquent speaker, and an avid reader. His curiosity and love for connection found new life in his passion for genealogy—he traced his family's roots and helped preserve their stories for future generations.
In 2016, Florent was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. While this journey shaped the latter years of his life, it did not define the man he was. One of the deepest losses for him was losing the ability to express himself through words.
Florent embraced the joys of golf, swimming, fishing, and traveling the world with Sandi. He was a devoted fan of the Montreal Canadiens and the Prince George Cougars, always cheering loud and proud. But most of all, he found happiness in time spent with family. His devotion to those he loved was unwavering, and his kindness and grace left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be remembered for his brilliant smile, generous spirit, and the warmth he shared with everyone he met.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 13th at 11:00am at Immaculate Conception Church (3285 Cathedral Ave), with Father John officiating. There will be a small reception in the hall immediately following the service.
In memory of Florent, donations to the BC Alzheimer’s Association or PG Rotary Hospice House are greatly appreciated.
