OBITUARY

Frances Muriel Jones

28 July, 1926 – 6 November, 2023
IN THE CARE OF

Assman's Funeral Chapel

The family would like to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother at Prince George, BC. Muriel was born on the family farm near Tilney, Saskatchewan to Frank and Rose Longmore, immigrants from Ireland and England. At the age of 8, Muriel’s mother passed away. The early years were hard during the depression era as she helped her older sister keep house, make meals and look after their younger brothers. Muriel graduated from Providence Hospital as an RN and nursed in Moose Jaw and later in Cumberland, BC where she moved with her father when he retired in 1948. Here she met her “soul mate” Trevor Jones at a badminton tournament. They were married in 1949. The coastal climate didn’t agree with Muriel’s health so they moved to Okanagan Falls in 1955 and purchased a Shell Service Station which they operated until they retired in 1976. Muriel nursed at Oliver Hospital in the 1960’s and later was a public health nurse in Oliver and Osoyoos.

Muriel loved her garden, organ, dancing and in retirement found time for RVing and fishing. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were Muriel’s special blessing and time spent with them was precious. In 2012, Muriel and Trevor moved to Prince George to be near family. Predeceased by her parents, and in 2015 by her loving husband of 65 years Trevor, son Douglas in 2021, brothers Bob and Wilfred Longmore and great-granddaughter Sarah Wasson.

Survived by her daughter Lynn (Ted) Phillips of Prince George, daughter-in-law Tammy of 100 Mile House, grandchildren Amy (Ron) Wasson, Bonnie Phillips, Kurt (Cassie), great-grandchildren Alisha (Darcy), Tianna (Matt), Harley and Dominic, great-great grandchildren Brinley and Braysen, sister Eileen Kleven of Red Deer and brother Lionel (Lois) Longmore of Medicine Hat.

Special thanks to the caring staff at Gateway Lodge Complex Care.

A private family service will be held. Interment at Okanagan Falls Cemetery.
