Gary Edward Pearson

Losing someone we love is one of the hardest things we will ever face. We are grieving the loss of the gale-force wind that was Gary Edward Pearson, 78, of Nukko Lake, Prince George, BC, who passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026.

Gary was born in Prince George on January 27, 1948, to Melfred and Evelyn Pearson of Nukko Lake. A community he never left and a place that became an enormous part of the life and legacy he built.

Gary spent his life as an equipment owner, a contractor in road maintenance and construction and a farmer. He built his life around hard work and honesty and was the kind of man who rarely let being sick or hurt keep him from getting the job done.

His passions were hauling gravel, splitting firewood, shooting squirrels and puttering around his yard…even if that meant jumping into a piece of equipment just to move it from one spot to another. He also had a lifelong passion for flying and airplanes. Whether he was in the air himself or simply talking about aircraft, flying was something that always held a special place in his heart. There weren’t many things Gary couldn’t do, fix, build or figure out. He also made time to travel, camp and fish at least once a year.

He built a beautiful homestead at Nukko Lake, a place that could somehow be full of the chaos of trucks, equipment and endless projects while still feeling peaceful. It was a home for many family memories we will cherish forever. He took tremendous pride in maintaining his home, but his greatest pride was always his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gary had a tough exterior and affection wasn’t always something he expressed openly, but those who knew him best never questioned what was underneath it. He showed it in the life he built for them, in providing for them, in teaching them and in always being there in his own unmistakably Gary way.

To us, he was our role model, our fixer and our teacher. His stubbornness and strength were part of what made him who he was and that strength stayed with him until the very end.

Gary fought incredibly hard to stay with us. He kept talking with us and holding on until there was simply nothing more medically that could be done for him. When his body could no longer keep fighting, he finally had to let go.

Gary is survived by his wife of 56 years Anne (Rigler); his children Elaine and Ken (Nichcol); his grandchildren Forrest (Rachel), Sydney, Ashley, Tyler (Shandi) and Rebecca (Cody); his great-grandchildren Bentley, Remeigh, Lenna, Alwynn, Blair, Darius, Xiomara, Hunter, Landon and an unborn baby boy; his brothers Lester and Brian; many nieces, nephews and good friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Mel and Eve and his buddies Doppy and Russel.

Grief is just love with no place to go. We were incredibly lucky to have a man who gave us so much to love, so much to remember and so much to carry forward.
