OBITUARY

Genevieve Oliver

21 January, 1926 – 29 May, 2026
IN THE CARE OF

Assman's Funeral Chapel

With deep sadness, the family announces the passing of Helen Genevieve Oliver (nee Latham) on Friday, May 29, 2026 at Prince George, British Columbia. Genevieve was born on January 21, 1926, at New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. She was the eldest daughter of Thomas and Mina Latham. Genevieve is survived by her daughter Annabelle (Wade), her grandchildren, Oliver and Kathleen (Luke) and great-grandchildren, Kylie and Penny.

Genevieve was predeceased by her siblings, Donald Latham, Annabelle Irving and Mary Shea. Her surviving nephews and nieces include Thomas Sutherland (Judy), Robert (Bob) Latham, Shelley Shea (Andrew), Kevin Shea, Franklyn Shea and Cathy Fisher (John). Her surviving great-nephews and nieces include Michael Sutherland and Ashley Latham.

Genevieve graduated from the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing (Halifax) in 1945 and had a nursing career of 46 years. After graduation, she worked in Quebec City and Toronto at Sunnybrook Veterans Hospital. She returned to Nova Scotia after her engagement to her future husband Warren. They were married in 1952 and built a home in Westville, NS in 1956.

Genevieve worked on staff at the Aberdeen Hospital (New Glasgow) and later as a private duty nurse. She ended her career in 1991 working as Head Unit Nurse (Monroe Wing) at the Sutherland Harris Memorial Hospital (Pictou, NS). Her compassion and inner strength provided comfort and dignity to her patients.

Genevieve was a life-long companion to Warren and his nurse before his passing in 2006. They were married for 54 years and had many happy years spending time with family and friends. They were frequent flyers travelling to British Columbia to visit family or taking winter get aways to warmer climates.

Genevieve was devoted to her family, and her care was boundless to those she loved. She eagerly looked forward to visits from her grandchildren who spent many memorable summers in Nova Scotia staying with their grandparents.

Genevieve was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (Westville), the Hector Centre (Pictou) and Clan Cameron. She was proud of her Scottish heritage and gladly spent time educating herself and others about the Clan Cameron genealogy.

Genevieve was an avid hostess and enjoyed hosting events and parties at her home in Westville and her summer home in Loch Broom. Her hospitality was generous and welcoming.

Genevieve will be dearly missed. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church (Westville) on a date to be announced. Internment will take place at Heatherdale Memorial Gardens (Sylvester).
