With a heavy heart, I need to let all of you know that Greg Hoff, my husband of 30 years, fought a good battle against his first bout of cancer. We all thought that esophageal cancer was bad enough, and the three months following his recovery, we became hopeful and made future plans. About a month later, Greg started complaining that his right shoulder hurt, and what was this growth on the right side of his head - another cyst? On December 12, after the second X-ray with contrast, we got the call that Greg had a spot on his right lung and the cancer was back. He started seeing ghosts on Wednesday, December 17, after a week on his new medication. We noticed Greg was acting strangely and not eating well. On December 19, Friday, he asked me to call 911; he didn’t feel well. The doctors in the emergency room took bloodwork, which showed he had pneumonia. The doctor from the ER decided she also wanted a head scan as well as a chest X-ray. He was started on antibiotics right away to clear up the pneumonia. By Monday, the results were in: Greg’s body was riddled with cancer. He had two choices, but as he had already agreed to no life support, he really was given a death sentence. He died with dignity at the wonderful Hospice House in Prince George, BC, at 9:32 pm, in his sleep, surrounded by his family.
He will be sadly missed by wife, Maureen Hoff, daughter Shelby Hoff (22) and Hayden Hoff (20). As well as brothers Bill (Trudi); James(Eileen); Delores (Fred); and Linda.
May his journey now be full of sight, laughter, and smiles from all that passed before him.
