James Douglas Greenshields

Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Doug’s family later moved to Port Renfrew on the west coast of Vancouver Island, where he spent part of his early life. For many years, he worked as a logger before opening Island Chainsaw and Equipment in Duncan, British Columbia. Through his work and business, Doug built a life marked by determination, hard work and independence.

Doug was predeceased by his parents Lester and Beatrice Greenshields; his sister Carol Ann Stiles.

Doug found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, reading, watching television and enjoying his favorite Chinese food. He also had a well-known sweet tooth. One of his favorite pastimes was thrift shopping and visiting garage sales--always searching for a good buy, a hidden treasure, or the next great bargain. He especially enjoyed taking his grandchildren along, creating cherished memories as they explored together and searched for treasures.

Above all, Doug loved his family-- especially his grandchildren. He took great pride in watching them grow and treasured every moment spent with them. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Gina (Tyler), Hayden (Theresa), Roy (Angeli) and Keith; his grandchildren Emma, Abigail, Maria, Milania, Sophia, Molly, Brooklyn, Phallon, Timber and Michaela .

Doug could be rough around the edges, but he was also kind, caring and funny. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was known for his many sayings, jokes and unique way of looking at life. His family and friends will remember the laughter he brought to their lives--along with his stories, distinctive personality and the many memories they shared with him.

Those who knew Doug will also remember his familiar farewell: “Bye for now.” More than a simple goodbye, those words reflected his spirit—a reminder that parting was never truly the end, but only until next time.

Doug will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
