Jean Rene - it was an honour to know you and to work with you. You were an absolute pleasure, and a shining star in our world. You will be greatly missed.

Rene  will always be the best Waiter this city has ever seen.   He was the epitome of grace and elegance. Rene took pride in his work and always maintained the highest level of service.  As a young woman just learning the world of fine wine, elegant restaurants and 
haute cuisine, Rene provided guidance and advice to ensure I had the best meal and experience.  If I ordered something he didn't 
think was good enough, his face and turned up nose would let me know, without him 
uttering a word!  We all know that look!  Over the years, we became friends and 
mutual admirers.  I would bring back coffee 
from Brazil, Manuka honey from New 
Zealand, tea from the Empress etc because he loved the finer things in life.   He enjoyed
hearing about my adventures and I enjoyed listening to his views of the world.  Rene 
didn't seem to belong in Prince Georege, he 
belonged  in Paris, working at the Ritz but he
 made our city his home and he made his 
friends his family.  We are all better 
mannered , more classy and elegant for 
having him in our world.  I will miss my 
beautiful friend Rene, and I will be forever 
grateful for his tutelage.  Au Revoir mon ami, 
until we meet again.

René was a dear cousin to me. For many years, he very close to my sister Louis-Odile (known as Zodile). They spent many times together at their earlier age while René was in living in Québec. At an early age, he inherited the family business in the Restauration business, a very famous restaurant and hotel in the city of Joliette, Québec. That is where he learned to be so efficient and appreciated by all his clients. He had great sense of humour. His love and interests for others made him special. He was curious and a good listener. When he moved to Prince George in the 80’s, he would send gifts and cards to my sister regularly. He kept contact with his hometown receiving the local newspapers and making sure we knew all the latest gossips from his hometown. When my sister passed away, I made sure we kept contact as being his last family member he still had contact with. I was the one now to benefit from his special occasion’s cards, and other gifts. When we talked on the phone, he was always full of humor and positive with life. One week before he passed away, he shared to me that he was not so well. I didn’t know it was to be the last conversation I was to have with him. He will be missed.  .. very much.
Bon voyage René ! And don’t party too much with Zodile !

Rene was a cherished friend and part of my chose family for over 20 years. He was loving, thoughtful and opinionated ☺️.
I will truly miss our visits and how he doted on my girls.

Honestly one of the greatest people I ever had the privelage of working with, let along calling my friend. I’ll never forget how positive and uplifting you always were Rene!

I didn’t know him well but he was the best server in the industry. 
He use to get his dry cleaning done where I worked, so I would see him often into the 90’s and 2000’s.  It was always a joy when he came in. Loved our conversations.

Although we never met in person, due to the ocean that separated us, I grew up knowing he was like family and loved him for that.

Years ago I visited my sister Teresa in Prince George,then I meet Renemy sister and him where more than friends they were like brother and sister.So I meet Rene we were the same age after that we start being friends , in all occasions he would send me postal cards Christmas ,birthdate , Easter,ll occasions of gay he felt like doing it. I have a small grandson that Rene meet just by photo so every time I receive a post card my grandson receives one too some times with a candy inside so my grandson used to send him a voice message ant he used to say Rene is my friend, when his mom told him that Rene passed he cried saying now I won’t receive more cards from Rene he was my friend's 🥺😢I hope you are in a good place ReneLike my kid says now they live in another planet we can’t see them but they can see us So Rene guide your little friend .

Rene will be missed dearly. I learned so much from him early on in my career.  Until we meet again mon ami.

Jean-Rene,  you were a joy to work with and will be remembered always. I think of you and miss you often.  Rest in peace my friend.
