John Gerald Power, born May 28, 1986, having completed his journey to the mountain, left us suddenly May, 28, 2026. A bright light, departing has left the world dimmer; a warm heart ceasing has left the world colder, but the impact of John on the lives of those who knew him will remain everlasting.
John’s road was tough, but John was tougher; he refused to give up. Determined to build a better future, in July 2025, he headed west to British Columbia. With the support of his brother Joseph, John finally reached the summit he had been striving toward, landing his dream job as an industrial electrical apprentice with Milltron Electric.
John’s parting was preceded by his hero, Grandpa Jerry and Grandma Maggie Mackay. John will be sorely missed by his loving and caring mother, Suzanne Hurst (Mackay), his father, Archie Power, his two dads, Mick Gignac, Trevor Hurst, his siblings, Joseph Gignac (Jalissa Moody), Alexandria Hurst, his aunts and uncles, Jeannie Mackay (Alvin Baylis), Jeanette Wilson (Carl), Roberta Pedrosa (Tony), Daren Mackay, James Mackay (big bro), his grand-parents John and Kathleen Guitar, Jean Green, his nephew Gabriel Hurst Davis and a loving gang of cousins and friends. A special mention of Uncle Larry Guitar who was always available and always supportive, Uncle Terry, who John cherished beyond measure and the crew of brothers that John found at Milltron Electric that walked with him to the mountain.
A celebration of John’s life will be held In Ontario at a later date.
