Mr. McCann was my grade 5&6 teacher at Malaspina in the 90’s. Hands down was the best teacher I ever had. He gave me a nickname that stuck with me all through highschool. I’ll never forget how he would tell us he ate chalk so I got him a pack of coloured chalk for Christmas one year and he took a bite of the purple and told me it tasted like grapes LOL. Such a great teacher and great person all around. Very sad to hear about his passing. Condolences to all his family. Thanks for everything Mr. McCann, you will never be forgotten ❤️

Mr. McCann was one of the best teacher I had in my life. He supported diversification in all his subjects and recognized all students. Thank you to his family for lending him to his students for all the extra hours he put in to make a difference in many lives. Rest in Peace Sir.

Mr. McCann was easily my favorite teacher growing up. He taught me in Grade 5 at malaspina elementary in the early 90s. He often stayed after school to let me and my buddies play floor hockey. Every teacher that I ever had always asked on the first day if I preferred Jeff or Jeffrey. But not Mr. McCann. He called me Jeffrey from day 1 and I was totally fine with it, but only from him haha. He might be the only person my entire life that called me by my full name. He just had such an amazing way of connecting with his students. Truly sad news. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I had Mr McCann as my grade 6 teacher in Ron Brent as well. He was patient, kind, and had a laugh I can never forget. I had the honour of being his nurse a few times and we would talk about the old days and keep each other in the loop of all the kids we remembered. I’ll miss running in to you and Mrs McCann in the mall. You truly were a fantastic teacher. RIP Sir ❤️

So very saddened to hear of this. Best teacher ever! I have him to thank for a life long love of Doug and the Slugs, always pronouning sil vous plait as silver plate and so many great memories - Lip sync battles, floor hockey, and possibly the best system for the spring - cramming the whole days syllabus into the morning so we could hang out outside all afternoon. Rest well dear sir. I hope Doug was there to greet you, serenading you with "Too Bad".

I had Mr McCann in grade 6 at Ron Brent in the early 80s. I was the kid that sat in the back of the class and remember during spelling quiz he would come around and check my area lol He was definitely the best teacher I ever had and was easy to talk to. He would stay on his own time after school to supervise us to play floor hockey. Common phase was "Keep the puck down!" Thank you for your leadership "SIR "

Mr.McCann was such a great teacher and he was very dear to me. He taught me in grade 6 at Ron Brent and I remember him always telling the time to us by saying “Mr Seiko” says it’s ….oclock.  I also remember his love of Wonder Woman. He didn’t take us on a school trip to camp McGinnis and I gave him a hard time about that for years. There was a group of us who had him as a teacher and we all wanted him to come to our grad ceremony and he did. He was such a wonderful kind funny man and I am so lucky to have been taught by him.  My deepest condolences to his family.

Mr McCann will always be my favourite teacher.  He taught a group of us at Ron Brent Elementary in the 80s.  He had nicknames for us all and amused us with his ambidextrous hand writing on the chalk board.  He was kind yet kept us in line when needed.  He will always be remembered dearly.  Rose H

Soft-spoken, wise and with a great sense of humor, this wonderful man will be sorely missed by any and all who got to know him.  His generosity and kindness, the "twinkle in his eye" and his general good nature were enjoyed by many.  We will miss you, Uncle David! I’m so sad to hear this news.  I loved Mr. McCaan
Very much .  He was was my favourite teacher of all time , I would run into him and his wife Betty  quite often, over the 54 years since he taught us in grade 7.  He was not only the best teacher , but also one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. He always made me laugh and he made me feel as special to him as he was to all of us. Mr McCann one of my Grade 7 teachers at Pineview. Elementary School.  I have many fond memories of that year and conversations we had at chance meetings in town throughout the years as time moved on. A wonderful teacher. My condolences to his family.

David to me was a funny kind man who loved his family and a daily dough nut. I always enjoyed his quick witt and wee bit of mischief. May his memory bring a smile to your face as it did for so many others he had touched through his long lifetime of service to his community. Biggest hugs to you all. He was a spark that will never fade ♥️

Mr. McCann was the best Grade  6 teacher who loved his students and never made teaching look like just a job he was doing. He loved his students and being an educator. If you were lucky enough to be in his class you know how very fortunate we were to have had a teacher like him. He never forgot me in the many times over the years we would run into each other, asking how my sister was, meeting my kids, and he never called me Rose always Rosalba and pronounced it correctly , and always had a quick witted remark or joke to end our catch up  run in with. Mrs. McCann, Colin, Katie, Mary and families, if we were lucky to call him our teacher, you guys hit the jackpot in having him as husband, father, and grandfather. Rest easy Mr. McCann , the Lords Prayer was said the first morning you got to  Heaven. You will be missed.
