It is with profound sadness that the family of Marian Joan Stewart, age 92, of Prince George, B.C., announces her passing on May 26, 2026. Marian Joan Stewart was born on August 27,1933 in Westlock Alberta to Frank and Mabel Rigby.
Marian grew up in Westlock, working on the Family farm until she graduated in 1950 from Westlock high school. In her senior year, she made it to the Provincials for high jump. From the Fall of 1950 to the Spring of 1951, she taught grades 1 through 9 in a one-room schoolhouse in Tawatinaw; which is a rural district in Westlock. Then, in the same year, Marian went on to serve in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a fighter control operator. An incredibly unique and pioneering era for women in military aviation. In 1955 Marian married the love of her life, a really handsome guy named Jack Stewart. In February of 1956, they packed up all of their worldly belongings in the back of a pick-up truck and headed west to Prince George, B.C. They settled there and raised five children. Marian was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. The matriarch of our vibrant clan. Family was very important to her. Her hugs felt like home and her kindness overflowed into others. She was a great cook, especially her signature pancakes, stew and dumplings and lemon meringue pie. Marian really enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, doing sudoku, watching hockey and figure skating, listening to the radio and gardening.
Marian is survived by her children Butch (Denise), Terry (Mike), Vic (Teka), Heather (Mark), Patrick; her 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Carol and extended family.
A Graveside Service will take place on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 10:00 am at Memorial Park Cemetery, 3300 Memorial Park Lane, Prince George, BC.
In loving memory, memorial donations, in honor of Marian, may be made to Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society, 1506 Ferry Ave, Prince George.
