Melody Lynne Kidd

It is with extreme sadness and deeply broken hearts that our family announces the very sudden passing of our beloved wife and mom, Melody Kidd. Melody passed away peacefully on June 17th, 2026, at the young age of 53, surrounded by her husband, daughters, mother, sister and niece.

Melody was born to Leon and Shirley Vhal on August 23rd, 1972, and quickly won over the hearts of her parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Shortly after she was born, Melody and her parents moved to Prince George, where they lived on a piece of family-owned property in the Chief Lake area for a brief time. Melody attended her first year of school in Nukko Lake before her parents’ bought acreage in Pineview, where they built a hobby farm and completed their family with her younger sister Shay.

Being raised on a farm, Melody was naturally fearless and an avid animal lover. She spent her childhood and teenage years travelling on the pony racing circuit, while her dad raced chuckwagons. She formed lifelong friendships during this time and gained a strong work ethic. Melody often reminisced about their travels, recounting many memories of racing, friendships and the occasional travel mishap. These experiences taught Melody that with hard work, passion and a deep love for what you do, any dream is possible. She dedicated herself to every job, hobby and project, often giving more of herself than she got back in return. She ensured that every project started, was done with great detail, care and love. She took great pride in her work and was always happy to pass on a craft or two.

In 1997, Melody married the love of her life and together they started a family. They welcomed their oldest daughter in 1999 and completed their family with the arrival of their second daughter in 2001. Together, they worked as a unified team to raise their two daughters, never missing anything. Melody loved nothing more than being a wife and a mom. Her husband and daughters meant everything to her, and she lived every moment for them. She was a fearless protector, a safe place to land and was always there for advice or a conversation. Melody spent countless hours on the sidelines of every sporting event, graduation and extra curricular activity her daughters were apart of. She dedicated many years to volunteering with her daughters’ classes, chaperoning field trips, being on the PAC, organizing graduations and fundraisers, and spent over a decade volunteering at PGARA. Wherever her daughters were was exactly where you would find Melody. She was always their loudest cheerleader, wanting to see her girls succeed in whatever journey they chose. She was their best friend, and they were hers. She taught her daughters to be strong, kind, and loving. She was extremely devoted, present and supportive, not just with her own daughters, but many of their friends. Melody was lovingly referred to as the group mom. Alongside her daughters, there are many other saddened hearts that lost a strong motherly presence.

Melody was magnetic. She was unapologetically herself and someone you wanted to be around. She was a sharp wit, a contagious and recognizable laugh and had a smile that radiated. She lived her life with an abundance of selflessness. When you needed her, she was always there. She was the first one to offer help and made sure to follow through. She enjoyed a cup of coffee, a conversation and visit with those she loved and a sunny summer day. She was a faithful Canucks fan and cheered for them whether they were winning or not. She was a fierce advocate and would often push for her students at PGSS to ensure they had a hot lunch. Melody was a great friend and a warm presence. She loved without faults and accepted you the way you were. She held herself and her friendships to the highest standard, making sure those around her felt seen, loved and supported. She never met a stranger and was affectionately called Mel by so many. Melody was also well known for her famous pasta salad, that came highly requested for every family get together.

Melody is survived and greatly missed by her husband Dan Kidd, her cherished daughters Latika Kidd and McKenna Kidd, mother Shirley Vhal, sister Shay Vhal, niece Cordelia Vhal, auntie Faith Horning, cousin Deryl (Earl) Henderson, and many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She is predeceased by her father Leon Vhal, grandparents William and Avis Cassidy and uncle Arnold Horning.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff in the UHNBC ICU. Their care and compassion went above and beyond what we could have wished for and gave us a few extra days with our mom. We are forever grateful.
