On the evening of November 19, 2019, God called home our beloved mother, sister and nana, Rita Ethel “Gypsy” Lawson. Her final hours were filled with the purest of love as her family gathered around her offering comfort and care. Wrapped in the safety of that love, she passed away peacefully.
Born January 15, 1934 to William Lawson and Helen Kennedy, in Kitselas, BC, Gypsy, to most who knew her, was a strong and caring woman. After losing her mother at the age of two, she formed an unmatchable bond with her “daddy”, a bond that continued to guide her through life after his passing and until they were reunited.
Many will remember her as the dynamic and fun-loving Gypsy who spent years as a cannery worker, dispatcher, lounge singer, bouncer and safe haven for anyone in need. To those who knew her best, she will be remembered as a fighter, not only surviving many times of trial and suffering but coming out of them a stronger, wiser, better person. Her stories, of which there are many, will live on through her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lawson and Helen Kennedy; sister, Rosie, Uncle Melvin, Uncle Ray and first-born baby, William.
She is survived by her children Micky, David, Kizzy, Pepe, Bonnie, Carmen and Bella, the many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren who blessed her life and countless more who honour her as their Matriarch.
Grandchildren: James, Ben, Janine, Verona, Jeramiah, Toya, Willow, Kayla, William, Myles, Amanda and Julie.
Great grandchildren: Michael, Michelle, Jesse, Kaylee, Jacob, Athena, Alexander, Tristin, Jessica, Reuben, Lyric, Syan, Brooklyn, Zachary, Paisley, Anthony, Jacob, Keya, Jaden, Kaylee, Malik, Kelis, Morgan, Alexis, Brayden, Lia.
