Ron will be deeply missed by his sons, Ronnie Sawtell (Sandra), Todd Sawtell (Tracy) and Drew Sawtell; his grandchildren, Jaclyn (Steve), Trevor (Milana), Hope (Sammy), Shae (Austin) and Paige (Cody); his great-granddaughters, Sloane and Ella; and many extended family members and countless dear friends.
Ron was predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Denise, and his son Dean, as well as his parents, Idell and Herbert Sawtell, and his three sisters, Edna, Edith and Noreen.
Born in Lethbridge Alberta, Ron was the youngest of four children. He spent his childhood enjoying school sports and discovering his passion for hockey.
As a teenager, Ron met Denise Lamb. From those early days, they began a life together that would span more than six decades. They married in 1963 and eventually settled in Prince George, where they raised their four boys.
Ron worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years and also ran his own business for a time. His love of hockey continued well into adulthood, both as a player and later as a proud dad.
Ron also enjoyed the years spent in Terrace as he was happiest fishing, hunting and exploring the remote corners of British Columbia. After retirement, Ron and Denise made their home at Cluculz Lake, where he continued to enjoy his favourite outdoor pursuits and lake life.
Ron loved a good conversation and could tell some damn good stories. His grandchildren especially treasured Grandpa’s stories, as they were always so amusing. Ron built friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Above all, Ron will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for the outdoors, his quiet way with people and animals.
The family extends its sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Gateway. He will be fondly remembered and missed more than words can say.
As per Ron’s wishes, no service will be held.
