She is predeceased by her parents, Walter & Lena Kucharuk, in-laws Andrew & Mary Prokopchuk, sister and brother in-law Irene & Greg Walker, brother in-law Keith Bailey, her son David Prokopchuk and many other dear family members and friends.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband John Prokopchuk, children – Richard Prokopchuk and Shirly Prokopchuk. Six grandchildren, Mysha Green (Kevin), Mindy Prokopchuk (Trevor), Ryan Egan, Katrina Chevrefils (Logan), Sophia Egan (Martinus) and Jonathan Egan. Five great grandchildren, Cruz Green, Beckham Green, Colbie James Green, Davis Chevrefils and Landen Chevrefils. Her two brothers, Harry Kucharuk (Anette) and Barry Kucharuk (Rosie), sister in-laws Iris Bailey and Elanor Reeves (Wayne) and many nephews and nieces.
Rose was always a very happy, loving, kind and devoted person. She was involved in the ladies league of the St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church for 68 years, making (perogies and cabbage rolls), helping with the bazar’s, keeping track of the memberships and attending mass until she was no long able to. She loved to cook and bake and always made sure those who visited never left hungry or thirsty and she could always be found in her garden or tending to flowers around and inside the house. This was her happy place, where she went to clear her head or have some quiet time. She had the best green thumb.
Rose also loved getting to watch her great grandchildren grow. Her biggest wish was being able to meet her great granddaughter, Colbie James. Mysha surprised her with a visit on September 30, 2025 and made that wish come true. On the last evening she was with us, she also got a smile from Landen. She would have loved to continue to spoil all her great grandchildren and ensure they got to know just how much she loved them all.
If you had a the pleasure of knowing Rose, you knew that she could light up any room she was in and she was able to give all her love to everyone around her.
We would like to extend a special thank you to all who helped her over the many years she struggled with her illnesses. Dr. Hogan who always made time to ensure she was well taken care of and took the time to listen to her stories, all the many other Dr’s who supported her and took care of her. Brenda from London Drugs who went above and beyond with her prescriptions. The many paramedics and firemen who showed up when she had a hard time and needed that extra help, and same to all the hospital staff who looked after her during the many stays she had. Dr. Celynne Merritt who graciously came to her home for continued care when she needed it. At last, all the home care, home support and RAPID nurses and care aids that gave her extra care at home.
Thank you to Assman’s Funeral home and Rev. Andrii Chornenkyi and the ladies at St. George’s church for fulling all of Rose’s last wishes.
A prayer service for her will be held at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church on Thursday October 30th at 7 pm and the funeral will be at 10:00 am on Friday October 31st, also at St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, with a service at the cemetery to follow and a luncheon back at the church after.
