With profound grief and a heavy heart, we announce that Sherry Lynn Maher (née Cromwell), of Prince George, BC, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, at age 72. Our sorrow follows a brief and intense illness which she faced with immense strength, courage, and grace.
Sherry was born in Winnipeg, MB on June 17, 1954. A lifetime BC resident, she grew up in Surrey and later lived in Lake Cowichan, Yellowpoint, Aldergrove, Chilliwack, and finally Prince George.
She spent her early career in service and hospitality before furthering her education and transitioning to health and social development. There, she built a fulfilling career in the field of mental health, including psychosocial rehabilitation, therapeutic recreation, and wellness coordination. Her most recent role was with Northern Health, where she served 13 years at Gateway Lodge Assisted Living Residences and retired at the end of 2024.
Sherry is survived by her devoted husband Edward “Sandy” Maher, with whom she shared a beautiful life for 52 years; her son Jason Maher; her daughter Chelsey Maher; her granddaughter Jocelyn Maher. She is also survived by her father Phillip Cromwell Sr. (and wife Blanche); and her siblings Debbie Butler, Rosemary Bier (and husband Roland), Phillip Cromwell Jr., Darlene Cromwell, Brenda Markerth (and husband Carl), Karaleen Cromwell and Gwen Cromwell; her siblings-in-law John Maher (and wife Tina), Kathleen Larson (and husband David), Bruce Maher (and wife Debbie); and a large extended family of many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was predeceased by her mother Donna Mary Louise Cromwell (née McLachlan), and her sister-in-law Diane Cromwell (née Topper).
In lieu of flowers, for those that would like to make a contribution in her honour, her family suggests donating to the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society. https://pghpcs.ca/support/
