With deep love and sadness, we announce the passing of Susan (Sue) Margaret Adair, who left us peacefully on September 14, 2025, at the age of 83. Susan was a woman of quiet strength, generous spirit, and timeless grace. Born on May 30,1942 in Vancouver, BC.
She is predeceased by her parents, Patricia and Robert Adair; her sister, Phyllis Braidwood (2024); her second husband, Ralph Schemenauer (2021); and her former husband, Klaus Ostrinski (1991), father of her children.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Juergen Ostrinski (Susan), Troy Ostrinski (Lucy), Sarah Christensen (Don), and Tyler Ostrinski (Cathy); grandchildren: Mariah, Kyle, Carson, Mishayla (Levi), Cole, Carter, Owen, and Madison; and her loyal furry companion, Sophia.
Susan received her BA in Social Work from UBC in 1980 while raising 4 kids. She worked for the Ministry of Children and Families until the age of 67. Her retirement years were filled with purpose and joy. She volunteered at UHNBC’s information desk, was an active member of the Red Hat Ladies Group, never missing their monthly lunches and she volunteered with the PG Council of Seniors.
Her 6 a.m. daily memes brought laughter to those she loved, and her witty humor was a constant source of light. She had a deep love for figure skating, a sharp eye for fashion, and a fondness for CBC radio, which kept her informed and engaged.
Her days were marked by brisk walks with her dogs, quiet reading at the kitchen table, and cherished rituals—black coffee in the morning, tea after meals, and always a cookie for dunking. Susan uplifted others with heartfelt notes of encouragement and lived independently with fierce determination, despite health challenges. One of her proudest achievements was overcoming a 39-year fear of flying, which led to travels through Europe, a Cruise, and time in Palm Springs.
A private memorial will be held in her honor. Our deepest gratitude goes to Dr. Grose, Dr. Closson and their practice for supporting Mom until her final breath. The family also wishes to thank Comfort Keepers for their dedicated support. Her legacy lives on in the love she gave, the laughter she shared, and the memories we hold close.
