

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church located at 450 S.E. Fairview St. in Prineville. A reception will immediately follow.
Roy was born in St. Cloud, Minn. on Feb. 6, 1933 to John and Alice Carlson. The family moved from Minnesota to Prineville, Ore. in 1948. He worked as a planer set-up man for various sawmills in Oregon before moving to British Columbia in 1963. It was in British Columbia that Roy first became acquainted with operating a backhoe. Upon moving back to Prineville in 1969 he started his own business, Roy Carlson Contracting, operating that for 35 years until the end of 2004.
Roy loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his fishing buddy, Duane Bledsoe. He also enjoyed working with wood and making butterflies out of rock.
Roy is survived by his wife Iris of Prineville; daughters, Ginger Purcell of Prineville, and Donna Harvey (Paul) of Prineville; sisters, Evelyn Ellstad of Moses Lake, Wash., Vivian Jamison of Oregon City, Ore.; grandchildren, Jamie (Harvey) O’Neal, Thomas Harvey, Tyler Purcell, Casey Purcell; two great-grandchildren Jocey Purcell and Hayden O’Neal; and many special nieces and nephews.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Myrna Carlson, and three brothers.
Donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society of the Ochoco’s.
